Georgia Animal of the Year
Nominate an animal today! Nomination deadline September 30.
The deadline is nearing to nominate an dog, cat or any other animal as the Georgia Animal of the Year. This year four animals will be selected in the following categories:
- Hero
- Companion
- Professional
- Therapy
Winners will be inducted into the Georgia Animal Hall of Fame on Sunday, October 21 at the Georgia Animal of the Year Awards Celebration and Luncheon at the Macon Centreplex in Macon.
Categories
Hero - Animals who have saved or preserved human life.
Companion - Animals who have provided a benefit to their human companion or to their community.
Professional - Specially-trained assistance animals.
Therapy - Animals certified in animal assisted therapy or activities.

Anyone may nominate an animal for the Hall of Fame - Nomination Deadline: September 30, 2007

A letter of recommendation from a GVMA member veterinarian MUST accompany each nomination.

Nominees must be domestic animals living in Georgia who exemplify the affection, loyalty, security and value of the human-animal bond.

A completed nomination form MUST be signed by the animal’s owner/caretaker and returned to the GVMA office. Veterinarians and their employees are not eligible to enter their own animals.
Letters of recommendation from people in addition to the veterinarian describing why the animal deserves special recognition may be included if desired.
- Animals chosen as Animal of the Year will be inducted into the Georgia Animal Hall of Fame. The animal and owner/caretaker must be able to attend the Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on Sunday, October 21, 2007, at the Macon Centreplex in Macon, GA, at no extra expense to the GVMA. (large animals excepted)
Selection Process
Selection will be made by a five-member panel of both veterinarians and non-veterinarians, including at least one representative from the media. Inductees and their veterinarians will be notified two weeks prior to the awards ceremony and luncheon.
The Awards
All Animal of the Year winners and Georgia Animal Hall of Fame inductees will receive plaques, medals, photos and recognition at a special luncheon in their honor during the GVMA Fall Convention. The nominating veterinarian will also receive a photo and plaque. In addition, the Hall of Fame will be publicized in The Georgia Veterinarian magazine and on the GVMA web site. Local newspapers and other media sources will receive information on the winners, their owners, and their veterinarians.
