Why you should attend day at the capitol

Why you should attend day at the capitol

If you’re a human, you probably like getting things for free. You probably like things that are easy, and if they’re interesting that’s another plus. But what if while you were easily getting something interesting for free, you actually did something positive for your profession?

Yes, Veterinarians’ Day at the Capitol, January 30 in Atlanta is actually all these things:

  • 5 free CE hours
  • All your LEAP requirements
  • 2 free meals
  • Interesting topics you won’t hear every day
  • Central location with plenty of parking and easy access to the interstate

If it sounds too good to be true it’s by design. We really want you there and bribery is not beneath us, because we want you to know how important your involvement is to our profession, and how advocacy (as boring as that word sounds) is quite possibly the most important thing the GVMA does.

Visiting our state capitol, hearing from legislators, talking about issues, questioning our industry and state’s leaders, are all great ways to be engaged. You may even have the opportunity to meet face to face with the legislator in your area. You’ll know exactly who to go to the next time have an issue, or find a solution to a local problem. And, your legislator will have a contact the next time he or she has a question about an animal welfare issue. They can get their animal welfare questions answered from a lot of sources, wouldn’t you rather those answers come from you?

Surveys from past registrants tell us that this is a fun event, which is probably why we get so many repeat registrants. Some come every year, and it’s not just because of the free CE or the free food, it’s because they realize that the profession needs them, and a fun, interesting, and free event is an easy way to give back to the profession. We hope to see you there.
