Visitors to Unicoi State Park and Lodge have always enjoyed the expansiveness of the wilderness surrounding the Georgia state parks, from our hiking/biking trails and the ever-popular Unicoi Lake. Fishermen have always known that cool mountain streams are a haven for large quantities of bream and mountain trout. Now, Georgia adventure activities are even more abundant at Unicoi State Park and Lodge. Learn to paddleboard on Unicoi Lake, try your hand at 3-D archery or take a level one fly fishing class. Below is just a sampling of activities available for you to enjoy at Unicoi:
- Archery & Air Gun Range
The Unicoi State Park Archery & Air Gun Range is a shooting facility that is set up for static archery target practice, 3-D archery target practice and air gun rifle target practice. All three areas of the range are considered ADA Accessible. Starting at $5 per person
- GPS Scavenger Hunt
If you love exploring, you will love the scavenger hunt. This is truly fun for all ages and teaches exploration and navigation skills. Starting at $15 per device
- Mountain Biking
Bring your mountain bike and experience our Mountain Bike Trail near Smith Creek. Our trail is considered intermediate in difficulty.
- Fly Fishing
Take a Level 1 fly fishing course, learn the basic of putting the real together and casting. This is a land-based class for beginners. Starting at $25 per person
- Kayaking (Limited kayaks available)
Get closer to the fish and closer to the water with our unique Guided Kayaking Class. Our guided Kayaking Class is a great way to see the lake and learn the history of Unicoi and the surrounding area. Starting at $10 per person
- Zip Line Adventure Tour
Zip through the canopy with our canopy rangers. The adventure is amazing for the beginner and experienced thrill seeker. The adventure allows you to experience views of the lake and wildlife from a whole new vantage point. Starting at $59 per person
Dr. Marie Kerl obtained her DVM from Auburn University and Masters of Public Health from the University of Missouri, and completed specialty training at the Animal Medical Center in New York. She is a diplomate of ACVIM and ACVECC. Dr. Kerl is currently Regional Medical Director with VCA. Her duties include teaching and mentoring veterinarians and technicians to achieve the highest quality veterinary care through education and teambuilding. Dr. Kerl is also an adjunct professor with the University of Missouri for online education. Dr. Kerl has received the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award.
7:30- 9:10 AM: Acute Renal Failure Causes and Management
While some causes of acute kidney injury cause irreparable damage, other causes can result in manageable disease. This lecture will highlight the common causes of acute kidney injury and use a case-based approach to discuss rational fluid therapy and management options for the uremic patient.
9:30-11:10: Feline Urinary Obstruction: Emergency Management and Complications
Cats with lower urinary obstruction present unique management challenges. This lecture will focus on initial triage, management of life-threatening hyperkalemia, resolving obstruction, and provide management tips for post-obstructive diuresis, urethral trauma, repeat urinary obstruction, and timing of perineal urethrostomy.
12:20-1:10: Diagnosing and Managing Anemia and Coagulation Disorders
Does your patient need red blood cells, plasma, platelets, or all of the above? This lecture will discuss proactive planning for insuring available blood products and identify clinical situations when various blood products are indicated.
