LAURA SMALLWOOD, DVM, DACVIM-SAIM.

 

Join us at the Emerald Coast Veterinary Conference on June 13-17 to hear Dr. Laura Smallwood speak on mindfulness. Dr. Smallwood will discuss:

Dr. Smallwood is from McAlister, OK and currently resides in Decatur, GA. She has a BA from Trinity University (San Antonio, TX), her DVM is from Kansas State University and she did her Internal Medicine Residence at UGA. She is involved with AVMA, GVMA, AAHA and ACVIM professional organizations. Current employer: Pathway Veterinary Partners. Dr. Laura Smallwood’s professional experience includes over 30 years in the practice of veterinary medicine, the majority of that as a small animal internal medicine specialist and practice owner.

Dr. Smallwood began her study of Mindfulness early in 2016 as part of a collaboration to develop a 6 week Mindfulness-based stress resilience program for Saint Francis Veterinary Specialists. Since that time, exploration of Mindfulness as a methodology for cultivating emotional intelligence, stress resilience and leadership skills has become her passion. She is particularly focused on the development of workplace programs specific to the veterinary profession. Dr. Smallwood has co-facilitated introductory veterinary workplace Mindfulness workshops and has presented on Mindfulness for the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA). She will complete her yoga teacher certification in February of 2018 and leads yoga practices for workers at Saint Francis Veterinary Specialists and Emergency where she is the Medical Director. Dr. Smallwood chairs the GVMA Wellness Committee. Dr. Smallwood’s sessions are sponsored by Zoetis.
